Matthew 4:10 (KJV) says:
"Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."
📖 Context:
This is the third and final temptation in the wilderness. Satan takes Jesus to a high mountain and offers Him all the kingdoms of the world—if He would bow down and worship him.
Jesus responds with finality and authority, quoting Deuteronomy 6:13:
“Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
✨ Devotional Reflection:
In this powerful moment, Jesus reveals the non-negotiable loyalty that God demands. No matter how attractive the offer, no promise of glory or power is worth trading our worship.
Satan tempts with shortcuts—glory without the cross, power without submission, reward without obedience. But Jesus firmly declares that only God is worthy of worship and only God deserves our service.
This verse reminds us to check our hearts:
-
Are we bowing to ambition, comfort, or influence?
-
Are we tempted to compromise just a little for earthly gain?
-
Do we serve God with undivided loyalty?
Like Jesus, we must be ready to say, “Get thee hence, Satan,” and stand firm on the truth of Scripture.
🙏 Prayer:
Abba Father, in the name of Jesus,
I declare that You alone are worthy of my worship. Help me to serve You with a pure heart, undivided and unwavering. Strengthen me to resist every temptation that offers gain at the cost of my soul. Let my life be a testimony that worship belongs to You and You alone.
In Jesus Almighty name, Amen.
