When the Word Is Twisted, Speak Truth

Matthew 4:7 (KJV) says:

"Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."

📖 Context:

This is Jesus' second response to Satan during His wilderness temptation. The devil had just taken Him to the pinnacle of the temple and challenged Him to throw Himself down, quoting Scripture out of context to justify it (Psalm 91:11–12).

But Jesus, discerning the manipulation, replied with Deuteronomy 6:16:
“Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”

✨ Devotional Reflection:

Satan knows how to twist Scripture, but Jesus shows us how to rightly handle the Word of God. Quoting God's promises without understanding His heart or commands is not faith—it’s presumption.

To “tempt God” means to test His faithfulness by forcing His hand, trying to make Him prove Himself. But Jesus models trust without testing. He teaches us that faith doesn’t demand signs or spectacles—it rests in obedience.

🙏 Prayer:

Abba Father, in the name of Jesus,
Help me to trust You without trying to test You. Let my faith be rooted in reverence, not in manipulation. Teach me to know and rightly divide Your Word, standing firm in truth and resisting the enemy’s lies.

In Jesus Almighty name, Amen.
