Mark 1:15 (KJV) The heart of the gospel in one verse

Mark 1:15 (KJV)

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

1. “The time is fulfilled”

Jesus points to the fact that history has reached its turning point — the long-awaited promise is now happening.

  • Genesis 3:15“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

  • Isaiah 9:6–7“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”

  • Daniel 9:25“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.”

  • Galatians 4:4“But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law.”

👉 Meaning: This is God’s appointed moment — the promises of old are now fulfilled in Jesus.

2. “The kingdom of God is at hand”

God’s rule and reign is no longer distant; it is breaking into the present world through Christ.

  • Luke 17:20–21“And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.”

  • Matthew 12:28“But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.”

👉 Meaning: The kingdom is not just future glory — it begins now with the presence of Jesus.

3. “Repent ye”

To repent means a complete change of mind and direction — turning away from sin and toward God.

  • Matthew 3:2“And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

  • Acts 3:19“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.”

👉 Meaning: Repentance is not optional — it is the door to forgiveness and new life in Christ.

4. “And believe the gospel”

Faith is not merely agreement — it is trusting and relying on the good news of Jesus Christ.

  • Romans 1:16“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

  • John 3:16“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

  • Acts 16:31“And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

👉 Meaning: Repentance turns us from sin; faith anchors us in Christ — both are necessary to enter the kingdom.

✨ Prayer from Mark 1:15

Abba Father, in the name of Jesus,
I thank You that the fullness of time has come, and that in Jesus Christ all Your promises are fulfilled. You are faithful from generation to generation, and Your Word never fails. I praise You for sending Your Son at the appointed time to bring salvation, hope, and life to all who believe.

Lord Jesus, I exalt You as King, for the kingdom of God is at hand. Your reign is not far away, but alive in my heart and present in my life today. Let Your authority rule over my thoughts, my words, and my steps. Teach me to walk in Your ways and to live as a citizen of heaven while here on earth.

Holy Spirit, search me and lead me into true repentance. Turn my heart away from every sin, every distraction, and every false love that draws me away from You. Give me a fresh mind, a renewed spirit, and a humble heart that longs for righteousness.

And Father, give me grace to believe fully in the gospel — not just with my lips, but with my whole life. Help me to trust Jesus, my Savior and Lord, in every season. Let my faith grow strong and unshakable, that I may live in the power of the good news and shine as a witness of Your love.

For the time is fulfilled, the kingdom is here, and the gospel is true. I receive it with joy, and I will proclaim it with boldness.

In Jesus Almighty name, Amen.
