Satan actively works to keep people from seeing the truth of the gospel. This blindness can manifest as unbelief, spiritual confusion, or resistance to God's Word.
Example: In the Garden of Eden, Satan deceived Eve with lies, causing humanity to doubt God’s goodness and authority (Genesis 3:1–5).

2. Deceived the Nations

Revelation 12:9 describes Satan as the one who “leads the whole world astray.” Through lies and temptations, he promotes ideologies, systems, and lifestyles that oppose God’s will.
This includes corrupt leadership, destructive cultural trends, and false religions.

3. Promoted Sin and Rebellion

Satan encourages rebellion against God by tempting people to prioritize selfish desires over obedience to God. Ephesians 2:2 calls him “the ruler of the kingdom of the air” and highlights his work in those who disobey God.
He leverages human pride, lust, and greed to perpetuate sin (1 John 2:16).

4. Brought Death and Destruction

Jesus said in John 10:10, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” Satan's goal is not only spiritual death but also destruction in relationships, physical harm, and brokenness in every area of life.
He has influenced wars, oppression, and personal suffering through sin's ripple effect.

5. Accuses Believers

Satan is called “the accuser of our brothers and sisters” in Revelation 12:10. He accuses believers before God, aiming to discourage them, fill them with guilt, and weaken their faith.

6. Fosters a Love for the World

The "god of this world" promotes materialism, fame, and pleasure as ultimate pursuits. 1 John 2:15 warns, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.”
His strategy is to make temporary things appear more important than eternal ones.

How Does God Respond?

God’s Kingdom is Superior
Although Satan is called the "god of this world," his power is limited and temporary. Christ's resurrection has already sealed Satan’s ultimate defeat (Colossians 2:15).
The Light of Christ Breaks the Darkness
John 1:5 proclaims, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Christ came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). Through Him, people can be freed from spiritual blindness.
Victory Belongs to Believers
Jesus said, “Take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Believers have victory over Satan through faith in Christ (1 John 5:4).
- “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
God Will Judge Satan
Satan’s reign will come to a definitive end. Revelation 20:10 promises, “The devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur.”

What Should Believers Do?

Walk in the Truth of God’s Word
God’s Word is a light to combat Satan’s lies (Psalm 119:105). We are to renew our minds daily (Romans 12:2).
Be Alert and Resist
1 Peter 5:8–9 warns, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith.”
Put on the Armor of God
Ephesians 6:10–18 instructs believers to wear spiritual armor: truth, righteousness, the gospel, faith, salvation, the Word of God, and prayer. This is essential for standing against Satan’s schemes.
Proclaim the Gospel
Sharing the gospel is the antidote to the blindness Satan promotes. Romans 1:16 declares, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.”

Closing Prayer

Abba Father, in the name of Jesus, thank You for rescuing us from the dominion of darkness and bringing us into the kingdom of Your beloved Son (Colossians 1:13). Open the eyes of the blind to see Your truth and freedom. Strengthen us to resist the lies of the enemy and to walk in Your light. Let us boldly proclaim the gospel so that others may be saved. Thank You that the god of this world has no power over those who belong to Christ, for You have already won the victory. In the almighty name of Jesus, Amen.
