At the heart of Scripture is the profound truth that God created us for a relationship with Him, and He desires for us to live in alignment with His perfect will. Throughout the Bible, God reveals His purposes and intentions for humanity. Let’s explore what God wants from us and how we can fulfill His desires in our lives.
1. God Wants Us to Love Him Completely
The greatest commandment makes God’s primary desire clear: He wants us to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. In Matthew 22:37-38 (KJV), Jesus said:
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment."
This love is not passive but active—a wholehearted devotion to knowing, worshiping, and obeying Him.
2. God Wants Us to Be in Relationship with Him
God created us for fellowship with Him. From the Garden of Eden to the Cross of Christ, God has pursued humanity with relentless love. He desires that all people come to know Him personally.
2 Peter 3:9 states:
"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
Through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, we can enter into a personal, eternal relationship with God.
3. God Wants Us to Obey His Commands
Obedience to God’s Word is an expression of our love for Him. 1 John 5:3 says:
"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."

God desires that we reflect His love by caring for others, showing compassion, and living in unity. John 13:35 emphasizes that love for one another is the mark of true discipleship.
5. God Wants Us to Live Holy Lives
God calls us to live in holiness, reflecting His character in all we do. 1 Peter 1:15-16 commands:
"But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."
Holiness means being set apart for God, rejecting sin, and pursuing righteousness.
6. God Wants Us to Share the Gospel
God desires for all people to hear the good news of Jesus Christ and be saved. Matthew 28:19-20 gives us the Great Commission:
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you."
We are called to share the gospel, making disciples and expanding His kingdom.
7. God Wants Us to Trust Him Fully
Faith and trust are foundational to our relationship with God. Proverbs 3:5-6 urges us:
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
God wants us to depend on Him, even in uncertainty, trusting His wisdom, timing, and plans.
8. God Wants Us to Glorify Him
Ultimately, God’s greatest desire is for His glory to be displayed in our lives. Isaiah 43:7 declares:
"Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him."
We glorify God by living in worship, obedience, and faithfulness, pointing others to His greatness and grace.
Living Out God’s Desires
To align our lives with what God wants, we can take these practical steps:
- Pray Daily: Ask God to reveal His will and guide your actions.
- Study His Word: The Bible reveals God’s desires and equips us to live for Him.
- Walk in Faith: Trust God in every circumstance and surrender your plans to Him.
- Serve Others: Show God’s love through acts of kindness, generosity, and compassion.
- Share the Gospel: Boldly tell others about the hope found in Jesus.
