Seek God and Be Diligent: Pursuing Him with All Your Heart

Seeking God is one of the most important pursuits in life. It’s not a passive endeavor, but an intentional, ongoing journey of knowing Him more deeply and aligning our lives with His will. Scripture frequently emphasizes the need to seek God earnestly and diligently, promising that those who do will find Him and be rewarded.

Let’s explore what it means to seek God with diligence and how to cultivate this practice in our daily lives.

The Call to Seek God

God desires for His children to actively seek Him. Jeremiah 29:13 (KJV) beautifully expresses this:
"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."

Seeking God is about a wholehearted devotion to understanding His character, following His guidance, and growing closer to Him. Hebrews 11:6 adds:
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

This verse highlights two crucial aspects of seeking God: faith in who He is and diligence in pursuing Him.

What Does It Mean to Be Diligent?

Diligence involves consistent, intentional effort. It’s a steady commitment to prioritizing God in all areas of life. Proverbs 8:17 affirms:
"I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me."

Being diligent means:

  1. Making time for God daily.
  2. Persisting in seeking Him even when life gets busy or challenging.
  3. Acting on what you learn from His Word.

Practical Ways to Seek God Diligently

1. Prioritize Prayer

Prayer is our lifeline to God and a vital way to seek Him. Through prayer, we commune with Him, express our hearts, and listen for His voice. Philippians 4:6 encourages us to bring everything to God in prayer with thanksgiving.

  • Action Step: Dedicate specific times each day to pray, making it a non-negotiable part of your routine.

2. Study and Meditate on Scripture

God reveals Himself through His Word. Studying the Bible diligently helps us understand His will, promises, and love for us. Psalm 1:2-3 describes the blessings of meditating on God’s Word day and night.

  • Action Step: Create a Bible reading plan and reflect on how each passage applies to your life.

3. Obey God’s Commands

Seeking God isn’t just about learning—it’s about living in obedience to His Word. James 1:22 reminds us to be doers of the Word, not hearers only. Diligence in seeking God includes aligning our actions with His truth.

  • Action Step: Identify one area where you can grow in obedience and take a practical step toward it today.

4. Worship and Give Thanks

Worship draws us closer to God by focusing our hearts on Him. Psalm 100:4 says:
"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name."

  • Action Step: Begin and end each day with gratitude and praise, thanking God for His goodness.

5. Persevere Through Challenges

Diligently seeking God requires persistence, especially during trials. Psalm 34:10 encourages us:
"The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing."

Even in hard times, trust that God is working for your good and keep pursuing Him.

The Rewards of Diligently Seeking God

  1. Deeper Relationship with Him: As you seek God, you’ll experience His presence and grow in intimacy with Him (James 4:8).
  2. Peace and Guidance: Isaiah 26:3 promises perfect peace to those whose minds are fixed on Him.
  3. Strength and Joy: Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us that the joy of the Lord is our strength.
  4. Spiritual Growth: As you seek God diligently, you’ll become more like Christ, reflecting His love and character.

Closing Prayer

Abba Father, in the name of Jesus, I come before You with a heart longing to seek You more diligently. Teach me to prioritize Your presence above all else, to meditate on Your Word, and to walk in obedience. Help me to persevere in my pursuit of You, even when life feels difficult. Thank You for the promise that You reward those who seek You earnestly. Draw me closer to You each day. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
