Engaging with Intelligence: Using God-Given Wisdom for His Glory

Engaging with intelligence involves using the mind God has given us to think critically, discern truth, and make wise decisions. The Bible emphasizes that true intelligence begins with a reverence for God and the application of His wisdom in our lives. It’s not just about intellectual ability but about aligning our thinking with God’s truth.

What Does It Mean to Engage with Intelligence Biblically?

  1. Wisdom Comes from God
True intelligence isn’t just knowledge but wisdom—knowing how to apply what we’ve learned in a godly way.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." - Proverbs 9:10 (KJV)

Engage Intelligently: Recognize that God is the source of all wisdom. Begin by seeking Him in every decision.

  1. Critical Thinking Rooted in Truth
God calls us to love Him with all our minds, which includes careful evaluation of ideas.

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (KJV)

Engage Intelligently: Test teachings, philosophies, and decisions against the truth of Scripture.

  1. Use Intelligence for God’s Glory
Intelligence is a gift that should be used to glorify God and serve others, not for pride or selfish gain.

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” - 1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV)

Engage Intelligently: Apply your skills and knowledge to advance God’s kingdom and bring Him glory.

  1. Discernment in the Spirit
True intelligence requires spiritual discernment, which the Holy Spirit provides.

"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him... because they are spiritually discerned." - 1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV)

Engage Intelligently: Pray for the Spirit to guide your thoughts and decisions, especially when faced with complex or challenging situations.

  1. Humble Learning and Growth
Intelligence includes a willingness to learn and grow, acknowledging that we don’t know everything.

"The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge." - Proverbs 18:15 (KJV)

Engage Intelligently: Be open to correction and growth, whether through Scripture, others, or life experiences.

Practical Ways to Engage with Intelligence

  1. Study the Word of God

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” - 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

Dive deeply into Scripture, allowing it to shape your thinking and worldview.

  2. Develop Critical Thinking Skills
Avoid blindly accepting information. Question assumptions, analyze arguments, and seek the truth.

“The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.” - Proverbs 14:15 (KJV)

  3. Seek Counsel and Wisdom
Surround yourself with godly mentors and advisors who can help you make informed, wise decisions.

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” - Proverbs 11:14 (KJV)

  4. Use Your Intelligence to Build Others Up
Be intentional about using your knowledge and insights to encourage and serve others.

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying.” - Ephesians 4:29 (KJV)

Why Engage Intelligently as Believers?

  • To discern truth from error in a world full of deception.
  • To make decisions that honor God and benefit others.
  • To glorify God with the mind He has given us.
  • To grow in our ability to witness and defend the faith.

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” - 1 Peter 3:15 (KJV)

Closing Thought

Engaging with intelligence as a believer means submitting your mind to God’s wisdom, discerning truth through the Spirit, and using your knowledge for His glory. Intelligence, when rooted in reverence for God, becomes a powerful tool for living a faithful and impactful life.

Closing Prayer

Abba Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank You for the gift of intelligence and wisdom. Help me to use my mind to glorify You, to discern truth, and to grow in understanding. As Your Word says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (James 1:5). Guide my thoughts, refine my heart, and teach me to engage with intelligence that honors You. In the almighty name of Jesus, Amen.
