Why is God not answering?

God hears and responds to the prayers of His people, but it also provides important context regarding the nature of those responses and the conditions under which prayers are answered. Here are some key scriptures and principles related to God answering prayer:

  1. God Hears and Answers Prayers:

    • John 14:13-14: "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."
    • 1 John 5:14-15: "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him."
  2. Conditions for Answered Prayer:

    • According to His Will: As mentioned in 1 John 5:14, prayers need to be in accordance with God's will.
    • Faith: Matthew 21:22: "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
    • Righteousness: James 5:16: "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
    • Persistence: Luke 18:1: "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."
    • Right Motives: James 4:3: "When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures."
  3. God’s Sovereignty:

    • God, in His sovereignty, may choose to answer prayers in ways that are different from our expectations. He may say "yes," "no," or "wait."
    • Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
  4. God's Ultimate Wisdom:

    • Isaiah 55:8-9: "'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the LORD. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'"

Have you ever think, why would God not answer?

  • God's Timing:

    • Ecclesiastes 3:1: "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."
    • Sometimes, the timing isn't right according to God's perfect plan. He may be preparing you or the circumstances for a future fulfillment of your request.
  • God's Will:

    • 1 John 5:14: "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."
    • God answers prayers that align with His will. If a prayer request is not in accordance with God's will, He may not grant it as we expect.
  • Faith and Belief:

    • James 1:6-7: "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord."
    • Faith is crucial in prayer. A lack of faith can hinder answers to prayers.
  • Unconfessed Sin:

    • Psalm 66:18: "If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened."
    • Sin can create a barrier between us and God. Confession and repentance are necessary for a healthy relationship with God.
  • God's Greater Purpose:

    • Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
    • Sometimes, God has a greater purpose that we cannot see. He might be using the situation to grow our character, faith, or to accomplish something greater than we can understand.
  • Perseverance in Prayer:

    • Luke 18:1: "Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up."
    • Persistence in prayer is encouraged. Sometimes, God wants us to continue seeking, asking, and knocking.
  • God’s Silence as an Answer:

    • 2 Corinthians 12:8-9: "Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'"
    • God’s silence or a “no” might be a way of saying that His grace is enough and that He has a different plan for our lives.
