Many believers struggle with the question: "Did God call me to this work?" Whether you are in ministry, business, healthcare, education, or any profession, the most important thing is knowing if God placed you there or if you are simply following your own plans.
1. Did God Lead You There?
Not every opportunity is from God, and not every job aligns with His will. We must seek His guidance to ensure that the path we walk is God-ordained, not just self-chosen.
- Proverbs 3:5-6 – "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths."
- Psalm 37:23 – "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way."
If God led you to your area of labor, there will be divine confirmation—peace in your heart, alignment with His Word, and open doors that no man can shut.
2. Is It Your Calling?
Many confuse personal ambition with God's calling. Your work should not only provide for you but also glorify God and advance His kingdom. Ask yourself:
- Does this work align with biblical principles?
- Does it allow me to serve God and others?
- Does it use the gifts and talents God has given me?
Ephesians 2:10 – "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
If your work is your calling, it will bear eternal fruit beyond just financial gain.
3. Are You Operating in God's Mind, Way, and Time?
Many people rush into jobs or make career decisions without seeking God’s will. Some do the right thing but at the wrong time. Others do things their way instead of God's way.
- God’s Mind (His Purpose): Does your work align with God’s plan for your life?
- God’s Way (His Methods): Are you conducting business or working with integrity?
- God’s Time (His Season): Did you seek God’s timing, or did you move ahead of Him?
Ecclesiastes 3:1 – "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven."
Waiting on God’s timing brings favor and success. Rushing ahead brings stress and struggle.
4. Are You Doing It with God's Support?
Many believers start something, then later ask for God’s blessing on it. But we should first seek His direction before we act.
If God calls you to a work, He will provide for it. His grace will sustain you, and His presence will go with you.
- Philippians 4:19 – "And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
- Exodus 33:14 – "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
If you constantly feel burnt out, overwhelmed, and lacking peace, it may be time to ask: Am I doing this with God's support or in my own strength?
Walking with God is a Walk of Faith
The life of a believer is a faith journey, not a journey of sight. Sometimes, God calls us to places that seem uncertain, but we must trust Him.
- Hebrews 11:6 – "Without faith, it is impossible to please God."
- 2 Corinthians 5:7 – "For we walk by faith, not by sight."
Faith means obeying even when you don’t have all the answers. When God calls you, He will equip you, provide for you, and bless you.
Final Reflection
As you reflect on your area of labor, ask yourself:
✔️ Did God lead me here?
✔️ Am I doing things God’s way?
✔️ Am I working in His time, with His support?
✔️ Am I walking in faith, trusting Him daily?
If you answer "no" to any of these, it may be time to seek God's direction afresh. He will never lead you where His grace cannot sustain you.
Closing Prayer
Abba Father, in the name of Jesus, I surrender my work and my labor to You. Lead me in Your perfect will, and align my life with Your divine purpose. Let me work in Your way, Your time, and with Your full support. Strengthen my faith to trust You, even when I do not understand the path ahead. Your Word says in Proverbs 16:3, "Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established." I commit all that I do into Your hands. In the almighty name of Jesus, Amen.
