God's Kingdom First: A Devotional on Matthew 6:33

Matthew 6:33 (KJV): "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Prayer:

Abba Father, in the name of Jesus, as we come before Your presence, we are reminded of the timeless wisdom encapsulated in Matthew 6:33. "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." Lord, we bow in reverence, acknowledging the profound truth held in these words.

In the busyness of our lives, may our hearts be attuned to Your call to seek Your kingdom above all else. Let our pursuits be aligned with Your will, and may our daily choices reflect the values of Your everlasting kingdom. May we seek Your presence with a fervent desire to know You more intimately and to walk in the paths You have set before us.

Father, we also recognize the call to seek Your righteousness. Teach us, O Lord, the ways of righteousness that surpass the understanding of this world. May our actions, thoughts, and words be molded by the standards of Your righteousness, found in the grace and salvation offered through Jesus Christ. Grant us the strength to resist the temptations of this world and to pursue the righteousness that comes from a deep and abiding faith in You.

As we delve into Your Word, help us grasp the true essence of seeking Your kingdom and righteousness. Let the scriptures be a lamp unto our feet, guiding us on this transformative journey. May the Holy Spirit illuminate our minds, empowering us to discern Your will and to live according to Your divine purpose.

Lord, we hold onto the promise that as we prioritize Your kingdom and righteousness, all these things shall be added unto us. In moments of uncertainty and need, instill in us a steadfast faith that You are our provider, and Your provision goes beyond our earthly understanding. May we find peace in the assurance that Your grace is sufficient for us.

We pray for the strength to keep our focus on You, even in the midst of life's challenges. May this pursuit of Your kingdom and righteousness be the compass that directs our steps, leading us closer to You each day.

In Jesus' name, we humbly pray. Amen.

Understanding Matthew 6:33

Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God: To seek the Kingdom of God means to make God’s reign and rule the central priority of our lives. It calls us to surrender our personal ambitions to God's sovereign plan, to pursue a life of obedience to His Word, and to align our desires with His will. Seeking His Kingdom is a daily, conscious effort to draw near to God, serve Him, and reflect His love in all we do.

Righteousness - Attaining and Definitions: Biblical righteousness is not about outward behavior alone, but a heart transformed by God. It is a gift, received by faith through Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:9). True righteousness includes both imputed righteousness (our position before God through faith) and practical righteousness (our lifestyle in response to that faith). It is manifested in our obedience, humility, and love.

All These Things Shall Be Added: This promise assures us that when we prioritize God's Kingdom and His righteousness, He will take care of our needs. But the provision includes much more:

  1. Holy Living: As we seek God, He sanctifies us, setting us apart for His purposes (Romans 12:2).

  2. Being Perfected: God matures and completes our character through trials and perseverance (James 1:4).

  3. Led by the Holy Spirit: God's Spirit leads, convicts, and empowers us (Galatians 5:25).

  4. Seven Spirits of God: God's provision includes spiritual fullness—wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, fear of the Lord, and the Spirit of the Lord (Revelation 3:1, 4:5).

Biblical Examples of God's Provision:

  • Abraham (Genesis 15:5, 21:1-7): Trusted God's promise, even when it seemed impossible. God provided a son and fulfilled His covenant.

  • Joseph (Genesis 39-41): Remained faithful through trials. God elevated him and used him to save many lives.

  • Elijah (1 Kings 17:2-6): Fed by ravens during a drought. God provided in miraculous ways during scarcity.

These stories show that those who seek God's Kingdom and righteousness experience His faithful provision, even in the most unexpected ways.

What Jesus Left Us:

  1. The Holy Spirit:

    • Guides, empowers, convicts, and reveals truth (John 14:16-17, 16:8, Acts 1:8).

    • Produces fruit in our lives (Galatians 5:22-23).

  2. His Teachings:

    • Offer a blueprint for Kingdom living (Matthew 5-7).

    • Emphasize love, humility, and selflessness (Matthew 22:37-39, John 13:34-35).

  3. His Sacrifice:

    • Reconciles us with God (Hebrews 10:19-22).

    • Makes us the righteousness of God through faith (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Closing Prayer:

Abba Father, in the name of Jesus, as we reflect on Matthew 6:33, help us to realign our hearts with Your Word. Teach us the richness of true righteousness, the beauty of Your Kingdom, and the assurance of Your provision. May Your Holy Spirit guide us, and may Your Son's teachings shape us. Thank You for reconciling us through the cross and calling us to a life of purpose, peace, and power. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Build an Altar

An altar is a raised structure or platform used for offering sacrifices, worship, or making solemn vows to God. Throughout the Bible, altars hold significant religious and symbolic importance. Here are some key aspects of altars in the biblical context:

1) Altars for Sacrifices and Offerings:

Altars were primarily used for offering sacrifices and presenting offerings to God. This practice is found in both the Old and New Testaments. In the Old Testament, various types of sacrifices, including burnt offerings and peace offerings, were presented on altars as acts of worship and atonement for sins.

  1. Old Testament Sacrifices:

  2. Exodus 20:24-26 : "An Altar of earth you shall make for Me, and you shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I record My name, I will come to you and I will bless you."
  1. 2) Altars for Worship and Prayer:   Altars were also places of worship and prayer. Individuals or communities would gather at altars to seek God's presence, offer prayers, and express their devotion. Altars served as a meeting place between humanity and the divine.

  2. David's Altar of Sacrifice and Worship:

  3. 2 Samuel 24:25 : "And David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord heeded the prayers for the land, and the plague was withdrawn from Israel."

     3) Symbolic Significance of Altars:

  4. Altars often symbolized a commitment or covenant between God and His people. For example, in the story of Abraham and Isaac, the altar on which Abraham was prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac became a symbol of obedience and trust in God's providence.

  5. Abraham's Altar of Obedience:

Genesis 22:9-14 : "Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood."

     4) Construction and Specifications of Altars:

  6. Altars were constructed using various materials, including stone and wood. The design and specifications for altars were sometimes prescribed in detail in the Old Testament, emphasizing the importance of following God's instructions.

  7. Altar Specifications in the Tabernacle:

Exodus 27:1-8 : "You shall make an altar of acacia wood, five cubits long and five cubits wide—the altar shall be square—and its height shall be three cubits."

    1. 5) Jesus as the Ultimate Sacrifice:

    2. In the New Testament, the concept of the altar is transformed with the understanding that Jesus Christ became the ultimate sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. The need for animal sacrifices on altars, as practiced in the Old Testament, was fulfilled by Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross.

    3. Jesus' Sacrifice Fulfilling the Law:

Hebrews 9:11-14 : "But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation."

Some key biblical references related to altars include the construction of altars by figures like Noah, Abraham, and Moses in the Old Testament. The book of Exodus provides detailed instructions for constructing the altar in the tabernacle.

The Great Commission

The Great Commission is a mandate given by Jesus to his disciples extended to all believers to reach the entire globe with the Gospel of Salvation, and to bring nations to the knowledge of the truth through discipleship and to consequently bring territorial and socialitoria transformation.

These are where you can find the Great Commission:

1) Mark 16:15-20

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

2) Matthew 28:18-20

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

3) Acts 1:6-11

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Prayer :

Abba Father Almighty God, in the name of Jesus, we come before you, humbled by the divine mandate bestowed upon us, the Great Commission, echoing the words of your Son, Jesus Christ. In Mark 16:15-20, He charged His disciples, and by extension, all believers, to go forth into all the world and proclaim the Gospel of Salvation to every creature. We stand in awe of the profound responsibility to bring nations to the knowledge of the truth through discipleship, ushering in territorial and societal transformation.

Lord, as we embark on this sacred mission, let the words of Mark 16:16 resonate deeply within our hearts — a call to salvation for those who believe and a plea for redemption for those who do not. May the signs that follow believers be evident in our lives, casting out devils, speaking with new tongues, taking up serpents without harm, and laying hands on the sick for their recovery. Your promise is true, and we trust in your unfailing word.

In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus declared that all power is given unto Him in heaven and on earth. With this
divine authority, we are commissioned to teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Empower us to observe and impart all that You have commanded us, with the assurance that Your presence will be with us always, even unto the end of the world.

Acts 1:6-11 reveals the disciples' longing for the restoration of the kingdom, and your response, Lord,
redirects their focus. Grant us the wisdom to understand that the times and seasons are in Your hands. Fill us with the power of the Holy Ghost, that we may be witnesses for Christ in Jerusalem, in all Judaea, in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

As we gaze toward heaven, anticipating the return of our Savior, instill in us a sense of urgency,
purpose, and unwavering faith. May our actions and words confirm the truth of the Gospel, just as the disciples went forth, preaching everywhere, with the Lord working alongside them, confirming the word with signs following.

In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, we pray, believing and declaring, Amen.

The Church in Laodicea

A call to REPENT Revelation 3:14-22 in the King James Version (KJV):

"And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches." The Charge - wrongdoings or shortcomings

The wrongdoings or shortcomings (the charge) mentioned in Revelation 3:14-22, particularly in the context of the message to the church in Laodicea, can be summarized as follows:

  1. 1. Lukewarmness: The church is criticized for being lukewarm, neither hot nor cold. A lack of fervor, commitment, or passion in their faith. They are not actively pursuing a close relationship with God.

  2. 2.Self-Sufficiency: The church is accused of saying, "I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing." This reflects an attitude of self-sufficiency and a reliance on material wealth rather than recognizing their spiritual need and dependence on God.

  3. 3. Spiritual Blindness: The church is described as spiritually blind, unaware of their true condition and the spiritual challenges they face. Not discerning the deeper spiritual truths and the lack of insight into the spiritual battles taking place.

  4. 4.Poverty: Despite their material wealth, the church is described as spiritually poor.

  5. 5.Nakedness: The church is described as spiritually naked, lacking the spiritual garments needed for protection and righteousness. The absence of the "armor of God" mentioned in Ephesians 6:10-18.

  6. 6.Failure to Fight Spiritual Battles: The church is not actively engaged in the spiritual warfare against darkness and principalities. They did not put on the armor of God and standing firm against the schemes of the devil.

  7. Spiritual complacency, self-reliance, and a lack of awareness of the need for spiritual growth, discernment, and active participation in the ongoing spiritual battles. The message call for the church to repent, become zealous, and open themselves to a transformative relationship with Christ.

The Love, rebuke and chasterning

Love and Rebuke: The verse starts with the declaration that those whom God loves, He rebukes. This highlights the corrective aspect of God's love. Rebuking is a way of correcting or admonishing someone who is going astray.

Chastening: chastening involves disciplining and training that God administers to those whom He loves, for the purpose of correcting the astray to bring them out of darkness into the light. In leading the people to attain spiritual growth and refinement to close spiritual walk with God.

Believers are called to be zealous (enthusiastically committed) and to repent (turn away from wrongdoing). It emphasizes the transformative and purifying nature of God's discipline, intending to guide individuals back to a righteous path and strengthen their faith. Shaping individuals faithfulness and to be obedient followers of God. Jesus desires for a personal and intimate relationship with individuals. Standing at the door and knocking suggests that Jesus is seeking entry into the hearts and lives of people.

Door: Represents the heart or the individual's life.

Knocking: Symbolizes Jesus' invitation to enter into a personal relationship.

Emphasis is on the voluntary nature of this relationship. Jesus does not force His way in; instead, He patiently waits for individuals to respond to His call. It involves an invitation for people to open their hearts to Him, to listen to His teachings, and to allow Him to become an integral part of their lives.

The promise "I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" conveys fellowship, communion, and shared intimacy. It suggests a deep and personal connection between the individual and Jesus, much like sharing a meal together in biblical times was a sign of close friendship and relationship.

It is for the individuals to be receptive to Christ's call, to open their hearts to Him, and to enter into a meaningful and personal relationship with Him.

Prayer :

Abba Father, in the name of Jesus, we give You all the praise and thanks, for only You are worthy of our worship. As we draw near to Your throne with open hearts, acknowledging Your sovereignty and grace, we thank You for Your words to the church in Laodicea, as revealed in Revelation 3:14-22. These words resonate deeply within our hearts, and we confess moments of lukewarm faith, lacking the passion that Your love deserves.

Forgive us, Lord, for relying on our own strength and thinking we needed nothing. Illuminate our eyes to our spiritual condition, revealing areas where growth and transformation are needed. May we be pure and as white as snow. Let Your light pierce through the illusions of comfort, keeping us from spiritual blindness. Open our eyes to see and our ears to hear Your voice.

We repent of our self-sufficiency and our neglect in the spiritual battles. Clothe us in Your armor, enabling us to stand firm against the enemy's schemes. Make us acutely aware of our spiritual poverty and guide us to the enduring riches found in a profound communion with You. This intimacy with You, the only true living God.

Thank You for Your love that rebukes and chastens. Help us embrace correction with open hearts, understanding it stems from Your deep love. Ignite a zealous spirit within us—a passion to know You intimately, love You fervently, and serve You wholeheartedly.

Lord, we invite You to come into our lives anew. Knock on the door of our hearts, and may we eagerly swing it wide open, welcoming You in. We acknowledge that You are God, the Alpha and Omega, who blesses whom You choose. You see our hearts and know us better than we know ourselves. May we learn of You, take up the cross, and obey the calling and will of our Father in heaven. May our fellowship be intimate and transformative, a sacred feast of the spirit.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray.

Amen.
